When does something become an Obsession?

When does something become an obsession? I’ve been geocaching for just about two months now… actual as of yesterday 66 days.  And out of those 66, 36 of them were spent caching in some way.  In those 36 days I have collected 97 caches… I’m on my way to reaching my first 100 cache milestone.  In fact, a few day ago, when I realized how close I was to reaching my first milestone I set a goal of reaching 100 before the end of July.

So, here it is July 31st, only one day left and I have 3 caches to go until I reach my goal.  Wish me luck.

You’ll Just Have to Take My Word On It.

Geocaching Down, Too

Today a fire hit a major datacenter in Seattle, taking money processor Authorize.Net down. This has caused many web-based financial transactions to grind to a halt, but Authorize.Net isn’t the only website that’s gone offline today.

Another popular website has fallen, Geocaching.com, a worldwide GPS-based treasure hunting game, leaving thousands of people trying to figure out just what’s going on and why it went down.

Honestly, I found all 839,756 caches today but I couldn’t log them. You’ll just have to take my word on it.

Just a little more about Geocaching

First, The geocaching app at $9.99, has been well worth the cost.  If you own an iPhone and would like to try geocaching but don’t want to spend money on a dedicated GPS receiver… Give it a try.

But so far, the real fun is discovering endless new parks and interesting places near you that you never knew were there.  Or simpler yet, just the act of discover.  Besides being amazed by how many interesting places there are near you that you’re probably unaware of.  It’s real fun to think of all the possible “hiden treasures” that we pass by unexpectedly everyday.  Plus,  Kids love it, so it provides a good way of getting everyone together for some  outdoor family fun.

Geocaching

Yesterday, me and the family went geocaching for the first time. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, geocaching it’s sort of like a high-tech, GPS-based treasure hunt.

I’ve been wanting to try geocaching for about the last two years, but I lacked a GPS… which is kind of important when your playing game based on a GPS. However, my new iPhone plus the Geocaching app solved that delema.

We found three of the four caches that we looked for. We would have probably continued looking for more but the battery on my phone was about to die. We’ll have to make it a point to revisit the one we didn’t find. In any case, I really had fun and I think I even got the family hooked, they can’t wait to get out and find some more.

Now Serving Number…
