This past weekend, I attended my first Mega-Event when the family and I headed down to the MOGA’11 at Rend Lake, IL. I don’t think I could have asked for a more fun and interesting weekend.
We arrived Friday night just in time to kick off the big bash with the BYO…Buccaneer’s Booty Bash Before the Big Bash. For this event, Matthew dressed in his pirate gear and entered a costume contest… He won 1st place. We all had lots of fun mixing and mingling with all the other pirates and cachers. Then Saturday, despite the rain, sleet and snow, we went caching. A little inclement weather only added to challenge… However, I wouldn’t be lying if I said that I would have been happier if it was sunny and a little less wet. At the end of the day we reached a new personal best caching as a family with 33 finds, plus 10 kids caches… The kid caches don’t earn us any smilies, but Matthew enjoyed finding them all the same. On Sunday, we extended our cache-cation to include a side trip to St. Louis to take in the sights and visit with some friends and of course find a few caches. As far as the numbers go… when our trip was all said and done we found 43 caches, added a new state and 5 new Illinois counties.
I’m already looking forward to MOGA 2012. In fact, the family and I are already booked.
